AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR) Training
Join us for a 2-day AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR) training session designed for bridge engineers and consultants who want to strengthen their knowledge of AASHTOWare BrR, including both beginner and advanced topics.
This in-person training will include software overview, bridge workspace organization, library concepts, hands-on modeling exercises, analysis settings, report review, and practical bridge rating workflows. The course will also include advanced examples such as truss floorbeam/stringer systems, prestressed concrete bridges, reinforced concrete bridges, and additional topics as time permits.
Beverage and snacks will be provided both days. 16 PDH will be provided once the course is complete.

Training Format and Special IDOT Session
The training is a 2-day in-person training session. The first day is expected to run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and the second day is expected to run from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM for the ProMiles training portion.
Day 2 afternoon will include an IDOT-focused session by:
Spencer S. Koehler, P.E., S.E.,
Bridge Ratings and Permits Unit Chief with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Bureau of Bridges and Structures.
This session is expected to focus on IDOT-specific AASHTOWare Bridge Rating items, including the licensing process, IDOT import files, setup guide,SLRS review and examples, and IDOT tutorials overview. Training is endorsed and in collaboration with IDOT Bridge Rating and Permit Unit
Training course outline is expected to include:
– Introduction to AASHTOWare Bridge Rating / BrR
– Overview of the training objectives, system, development approach, and limitations
– System overview, Bridge Explorer, Bridge Workspace, online help, and manuals
– Vehicle selection and analysis settings
– Performing load rating analysis
– Reviewing results, including summary reports, specification check reports, graphics output, and engine output
– Bridge workspace organization, including bridges, superstructures, member alternatives, and alternatives
– Library concepts and hands-on library data entry
– Defining superstructures and members
– Steel plate girder bridge exercise
– Prestressed I-beam bridge exercise
– Reinforced concrete slab bridge exercises
– Creating a new superstructure definition using the wizard
– Bridge Explorer tools, templates, lists, folders, import/export, and sorting
– Preference settings, system defaults, report tools, help files, and technical support resources
– Truss floorbeam/stringer system exercise
– Prestressed box beam exercise
– Reinforced concrete T-beam exercise * Reinforced concrete box culvert exercise, if time permits
– Wrap-up, questions, and answers
IDOT-Focused Session presentation with Q&A is expected to cover practical Illinois-specific items, including:

– IDOT-specific BrR policies and practical guidance
Participants are required to bring their own laptop. Participants are responsible for having access to the AASHTOWare Bridge Rating software and ensuring the software is installed and working before the training. Software licenses and installation are not included with registration.
