On May 9, 2015, AAAEA-CA Southern California Section hosted the Semi Annual Networking Dinner Event at the Grand Catered Event in the City of Orange. As always and keeping up with tradition it was a sold out event. In honor of Mother’s Day weekend, all ladies were greeted with roses upon arrival. Janeen Obeid, the President, kicked off the event with warm welcoming statement, reiterating what AAAEA stand for in helping out the engineers, architects and IT professionals in our community and the needs for collective participation and support from everybody. Mr. Adel Hagekhalil did an excellent job as the Master of Ceremony with great sense of humor. Our Special Guest Speaker was Mr. Enrique Zaldivar, PE Director of Los Angeles Sanitation.
Recipients of the AAAEA-CA Achievement Award for this year were two accomplished individuals: Ms. Halla Razak, PE Director of Public Utilities Department-City of San Diego; and Mr. Amer Bata, PE Deputy Director of Construction, Caltrans District 11.
The highlight of this mid-year event was the award of 16 Scholarships to well deserving students from various California Universities, an event that is usually reserved to the end of the year dinner gala. Ms. Crystal Faqih was awarded a special scholarship in memory of Razan Abu-Salha the student who lost her life along with her sister and brother-in-law at the Chapel Hill shooting. She was a freshman student in the field of Architecture at NC State’s College of Design.
Entertainment was provided by DJ Danny and comedian Sammy Obeid an Arab American from Northern California.
Special thanks to all our event’s sponsors; without their continued support over the years. The scholarship program would not exist. All in all it was a successful event thanks to all our AAAEA-CA colleagues and members who worked diligently to make it happen.
