President: Issam Rayyan, PE

Issam is the current activities committee chairman of AAAEA-IL. Mr. Rayyan has been an asset to the association since inception. He has been taking the lead in organizing the association’s activities including the semi-annual meeting, social and networking gatherings, and picnics. Issam is a civil engineer who worked for the private and the public sectors for the past 30 years. Currently he is the civil section chief of in house design at Illinois Department of Transportation, District 1.

VP: Hussam Alkhatib

Hussam has served on the AAAEA-IL Chicago chapter board since 2008. He served as secretary for 4 years and was elected in 2013 to the office of Vice President. He served beyond his office capacity in several board committees and ran several activities through out the years he served with AAAEA. Hussam was responsible for running the Engineers in Training (EIT) and Professional Engineering (PE) exams review classes offered to AAAEA members at discounted rates. He was responsible in creating the (EIT) online classes used by the national association. Also, Hussam was selected as a delegate from the Chicago cheater to AAAEA national conference several times. In 2014 Hussam was appointed as the National Election/Nomination Committee chair. Hussam Earned his Bachelor and Master degree from University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and served on the UIC student chapter board. Hussam is a practicing Structural Bridge Engineer at Parsons Brinckerhoff Chicago office.

Secretary: Fatina Ahmad

Fatina serves as the secretary of the chapter. She is responsible for documenting AAAEA board meeting minutes, and maintaining newsletter campaigns for social AAAEA events, professional seminars and short courses for members. Fatina maintains AAAEA email inquiries, providing responses and sharing correspondence with fellow board members, and maintains site for internally shared AAAEA documents/ files amongst board members. In addition, she ensures AAAEA state registration and necessary documents are filed on time.

Education Committee: Dr. Mohsin Eissa, PhD, SE, PE, F.ASCE

Dr. Mohsen is the current Education Chairman of AAAEA. He is a professor of structural and materials engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). During the past 28 years, Dr. Issa has been teaching various courses in the field of experimental stress analysis, concrete materials, reinforced and pre-stressed concrete structures, and bridges. Professor Issa is the Director of the Structural and Concrete Research Laboratory. He is a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), Fellow of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) as well as a member of several professional organizations and societies including ASCE and PCI.

Membership Committee: Rami Asfahani

An entrepreneur minded Structural Engineer, aiming to help raise the awareness again for engineering by reaching out to the future generation. Rami graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the American University of Beirut (2012) and obtained my Masters in Structural Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (2014). As a licensed Engineer In Training, Rami’s fresh engineering experience has been a mix between construction management in Abu Dhabi, Resident Structural Engineering design, and Bridge Engineering design. In addition, Rami volunteered with multiple organizations on different committees: American Society of Civil Engineers (Member), Structural Engineering Association of Illinois (2 committees), and Arab American Association of Engineers and Architects (IL-Membership Chair, and National Publication Committee). Rami got introduced through my masters degree to AAAEA and helped reinitiate the IIT Chapter successfully.

IT Officer: Amro Kudssi, MSc.

Amro is a VP of Application Development in Consumer and Community Banking at JPMorgan and Multi-year board member of the AAAEA Chicago chapter. He was also on the first national board of NAAAEA. Amro carries an MSc in Software Engineering from DePaul University Chicago and a BSc. In Computer Engineering from Aleppo University, Syria. Amro currently is leading the development of many projects in JPMorgan with cutting edge technologies such as Enterprise Java (JEE), Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Web 2.0 and Mobile payment systems to name a few. He also is an expert in full software development life-cycle process SDLC, efficiency improvements and process automation. Amro joined the AAAEA in 2008 and less than a year later he became Chicago chapter IT officer. He played that role for four years before becoming the first National IT officer once the National association was created on 11/11/2011. Since joining the association, Amro has made so many contributions in its operations including creating the National AAAEA Website, creating a streamlined email system, training chapter IT Officers, contributing technical articles, and offering ECT online classes amongst others. Amro now the main architect behind the National website platform and all the IT automation processes of NAAAEA and its chapters. Technology has always been Amro’s biggest hobby as well. Whether it’s a a piece of software or a high-tech gadget, simple or complex, just ask Amro and he will be more than happy to solve it with you.

Career Enhancement Committee: Hani Mayzouni

Hani is an IT Leader with a Bachelor degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, MBA, and M.S. in Software Engineering. His professional background includes over 25 years of experience with Senior Management, Information Technology, Telephony and Web Technology.
Hani joined AAAEA in 1999 via another member. He believes uniting Arab American professionals will build a strong community and encourage the young generation to enter the field of Science and Engineering.
Hani's objective is to have a chapter in each state and have an impact via our members on the science and engineering communities.
