Engineering Week 2015

AAAEA-IL, as it does annually, participated in the fun, free, family interactive Annual Engineers Week Expo. The event provided children and adults the opportunity to experience and explore the many fields of science and engineering through interactive displays and presentations. AAAEA-IL volunteers had a both display and conducted the annual Tower Destruction that draws a large crowd every year. The booth was run by Jamal Grainawi with the help of several AAAEA-IL officers and volunteers.

Ask an Engineer

Presented by the Arab American Association of Engineers and Architects-IL (AAAEA-IL), these
presentations feature a panel of engineers from several different areas ready to field your
questions. Several entries in the high school bridge contest and winning entries from the annual
AAAEA-IL essay/poster contest will be available for viewing.

Tower Destruction!

Learn about new structural products, the latest bridge projects in the Chicago-area, and tall
building. Stop by anytime and guess how much weight will our balsa wood tower structure will
be able to support. Stop back at 2:15 PM for a load capacity test of the tower structure! [Tower
Destruction] The closest guesses will win Money Gift Certificates. AAAEA-IL is a non-profit,
non-political, non-religious professional organization open to all architects, engineers and

AAAEA-IL ESSAY/POSTER CONTEST

The Essay/Poster Contest is sponsored by AAAEA-IL and is open to all students in the 3rd through 8th grades in the Chicagoland area schools. Students submit an essay and a poster about an engineer that they admire or have made an impact on their life. The essay should explain who the engineer is and why the student admires this engineer. The poster should depict some aspect of the engineer and the engineer’s accomplishment. The purpose of the contest is to stimulate students to consider careers in engineering by fostering interest in engineering through research, essay writing, creating a poster and interacting with engineers.  To learn more about our association E-Week Committee, Essay/Poster Contest and our School Outreach Program, please visit our website at www.aaaea.org.
